About
During his more than 10 years working at a prestigious worldwide law firm, Dennis Bent observed how the rising costs of “big firm” legal representation and lack of personalized service impacted his clients. Dennis set out to find a better way to combine his finance and legal expertise with the high level of service he has always been committed to providing to his clients. The Law Firm of Dennis Bent opened its doors in July 2018 as a means to provide the best combination of service and legal expertise at reasonable rates.
Dennis is recognized by clients for his strong depth of knowledge in a wide variety of mortgage-related finance transactions ranging from warehouse facilities, whole loan transactions, servicing rights transactions and residential mortgage-backed securitizations (RMBS). His RMBS experience includes drafting and negotiating highly complex agreements and offering documents, helping to set up securitization platforms that issued billions of dollars of securities, providing advice regarding recent regulatory changes, developing effective strategies to help clients resolve legal and economic issues and developing innovative solutions for clients seeking to liquidate legacy securitizations. Dennis has been the lead lawyer on RMBS securitizations and repurchase facilities backed by every type of residential mortgage-related product (e.g., prime, subprime, agency, non-QM, seasoned and fix-and-flip mortgage loans) and has also represented investment banks in connection with the re-securitization of legacy RMBS securities.
History
Dennis graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a BA in Business Economics in 1999 and an MA in Economics in 2000. After a brief stint in the Bay Area as a financial analyst at The Clorox Company, Dennis figured out that bleach was not his passion so he moved back to Los Angeles to pursue a legal education. Dennis graduated from the UCLA School of Law in 2005 and began working at a worldwide law firm in 2006 as a structured finance associate. He was honored with a firm partnership in 2018 before leaving to start his own firm so he could spend more time with his wife and two children.
Community Involvement
Dennis strives to give back to the community and is passionate about helping families and children, as evidenced by his pro bono work with AIDS patients and domestic violence victims through his associations with the Los Angeles County Bar Association and Public Law Center. He has has also dedicated time to the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in both Irvine and Los Angeles.
Along with his passion for law and economics, Dennis has a love for teaching. For the past five years, he has served as a adjunct professor of micro and macro economics at local community colleges.
Dennis’ most important role is that of “Dad” to his two active children. He volunteers as a coach for his son’s Little League baseball and flag football teams and enjoys playing basketball with his daughter.
